Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Microcomputer Applications in Transportation III

Abstract:

The paper discusses the COLLDIAG computer program which, when working in conjunction with a powerful computer-aided drafting program (AutoCAD), can generate collision diagrams for various intersection configurations. The work represented in this paper was done in order to test the usefulness of that collision diagram program. Using data provided by the Amherst Police Department (Amherst, MA), collision diagrams were generated for ten intersections in that town. A detailed discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the COLLDIAG program is included. Major concerns center around the final product's readability and the user's familiarity with the AutoCAD software package. Study results are discussed.
