Probabilistic Analysis of Maintenance Options

Part of: Water Resources Infrastructure: Needs, Economics, and Financing

Abstract:

Maintenance usually means service disruption, repair cost and loss of production. This is especially true for structures or components which provide basic infrastructure services, such as water and power. Often these structures are difficult to inspect and their repair state is uncertain. But a successful choice among maintenance options can possibly offset inconveniences and costs by more reliable and efficient future operation. Probabilistic maintenance analysis can deal with uncertainty of variable values and processes. Some concepts and applications are described, including economic reliability, expected net benefits, active and passive design, and others.
