Abstract:

The problem of reliability of a single-span spatial suspension bridge under random highway traffic is considered. The displacements of the bridge are described by coupled, non-linear, integro-differential equations. The stochastic properties of the static loading are idealized by the filtering Poisson process. The probability density functions of the vertical and horizontal deflections, as well as the reliability estimation are determined for both the linear and non-linear cases.
