Abstract:

The paper presents a formulation of shift synthesis to improve the reliability of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) laminated plates with uncertain elastic constants and lamina strength. The synthesis is carried out by taking the fiber orientations as design parameters so as to enhance 'the augmented reliability index', which is defined negative when the expectation point lies in the failure domain. The failure of each lamina is assumed to be subjected to the Tsai-Hill's law. The validity of the presented method is verified by the numerical example of three-layered CFRP plate under the biaxial and bending load condition.
