Abstract:

At present common unified rules for the design of Civil engineering structures are being prepared on the initiative of the Commission of the European Communities. Eurcode 3, which gives design rules for steel structures, contains strength functions that have been calibrated with tests to achieve an equal level of reliability. The evaluation procedure for obtaining characteristic and design values of strength is presented and some examples of evaluations are given.
