Response Analysis of Crude Oil Transmission Systems

by Michael J. O'Rourke, Rensselaer Polytechnic Inst, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Structural Safety and Reliability

Abstract:

A preliminary analysis of the seismic response of continuous steel pipelines is presented. The Crude Oil Transmission System in the New Madrid Mo. area is choosen as an example. Assumptions are identified, analysis procedures are outlined and the probability of failure due to Permanent Ground Deformation hazards associated with a repetition of the 1811-12 earthquake is evaluated.
