Abstract:

One of the first and most important of the Engineer's Documents generated was the Standard General Conditions of the Construction Contract. The current version of the General Conditions, designated 1910-8, is the 1983 edition reprinted in August 1986. The policy of the Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee provides for a review of each of the family of documents five years after its last issue date. The General Conditions have been under review through 1987 and 1988 by EJCDC, and are currently being reviewed by the Associated General Contractors. It is anticipated that the latest update will be available for use by the Construction Industry by the Fall of 1989. A series of documents, tied to the General Conditions will also be revised and reissued in Fall of 1989. This paper focuses on the General Conditions, and outlines the contents, and comments on some of the major changes to the 1983 version.
