The Effects of Velocity on Scour

Part of: Sediment Transport Modeling
Abstract:
Four effects of 'velocity' on scour are discussed: clear-water scour, scour by light sediment-transporting flow, mode of movement, and kinetic terms included in the definition of scour. The first three are related to flow parameters and sediment size rather than simply velocity, the fourth to velocity heads and energy loss. Experimental measurements to illustrate the first two effects are presented.
