Abstract:

In this paper, the contact stabilization process is analyzed. In comparison to the conventional activated sludge process, there are a larger number of independent design variables involved in the contact stabilization or biosorption process. The objective is to develop a model of this process which will help to explain the role and effects of these variables in the design and operation of the process. Dimensionless equations have been developed which relate the sludge age to the process variables, e.g., recirculation ratio, sludge wastage and sludge concentration and volume of the stabilization reactor.
