Abstract:

The term 'calculation software' is used here to describe computer software which has the basic functionality of a programmable scientific hand calculator, but which offers some additional functions, and much more convenient input and output. It is shown how such software can be used effectively in the teaching of engineering. A number of representative files or templates, which illustrate the concept, are presented and discussed. Specific examples are based on the software MathCAD, but the concept is clearly extendible to other products which are appearing on the market.
