Abstract:

This study is an attempt to explain the event which is presently occurring at the mouth of the Paraiba do Sul river and is causing a negative socio-economic impact on the Atafona population. Subjects covered include the deltaic mouth prograding process, the retrogradation phenomenon, tectonic processes, and others.
