Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Seismic Engineering: Research and Practice

Abstract:

The paper describes the philosophy of the ENEA project of seismic instrumentation of buildings in Italy and the steps made to implement it. The philosophy is twofold: i) to define a general methodology to approach the problem of instrumentation; ii) to select an area and to start the experimental program while the first point is going on. The paper discusses a methodology for seismic instrumentation, the digital recording system, review of two large historical earthquakes, seismic hazard analysis, and other aspects of the subject.
