Abstract:

For the past 20 years the majority of the structural engineering faculty in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering at Iowa State University (ISU) have performed research in bridge engineering. To identify ongoing bridge research and teaching activities a Bridge Engineering Center (BEC) at ISU was proposed; in 1986 this request was approved by the Board of Regents. This paper describes four bridge research projects either in progress at ISU or completed within the past few months.
