Abstract:

This paper summarizes the closely coordinated engineering and construction planning associated with the design and construction of a reinforced concrete containment model. Designed at 1/6 scale to the ASME Section III, Division 2 Code, this is the largest and most complex model of its kind. Details of the integrated design and construction are provided as they relate to concrete mix design, forming techniques, concrete placing and consolidation, reinforcement splicing, installation templates and zone preassemblies and line installation sequencing. A brief description of the tested capacity and mode of failure is also provided.
