Abstract:
Committees of the American Society of Civil Engineers have been in the forefront on updating design guides to address improved procedures for conventional latticed towers, formed-plate pole structures, concrete poles, and the development of more quantitative loading criteria for transmission structures. The article provides some of the documents that have been published recently. These documents have been instrumental in providing guidance for the design engineer as he attempts to reduce total structure cost and, at the same time, maintain needed line reliability to ensure satisfactory operating performance.
