Abstract:

Double layer reticular shell structures carry very little transverse shear, thus, it may be appropriate to substitute the inter-layer diagonal members with 'space' members perpendicular to the middle surface. In this paper the shear stiffness of double layer grids without diagonals is presented and used to calculate the design buckling load for domes built with this geometry.
