Abstract:

The author designed an atrium structure with two stair-stepped atriums placed at 45? to the tower 'Figueroa at Wilshire' in Los Angeles, California. This structure has also utilized tubular round sections for the structural framework. This paper discusses the choice of structural system design criteria and critical connection details designed to absorb relative seismic displacements between the tower and the atrium.
