Abstract:

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has specially designed and equipped the tower testing station located within their Transmission Line Mechanical Research Center (TLMRC) near Ft Worth, Texas, to provide highly accurate measurements of member forces and the strength of members/connections in full scale structures. This paper assesses how the availability of such a facility has advanced our understanding of structure response and how it can be used to supply improved answers to the critial questions facing today's transmission engineers.
