Abstract:

The need for infrastructural capacity in the future in Europe has been investigated by the European Conference of Ministers of Transport - ECMT. The principal traffic considered was international freight transport between ECMT member countries. This paper presents the state of international traffic in Europe; discusses possible development of freight transport; growth in car ownership and use; changing patterns of urban travel; future traffic management and infrastructure investments.
