Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Highway Safety: At the Crossroads

Abstract:

Airplane accidents have always had considerable media attention, particularly, when they involve large numbers of fatalities. Ever since the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 and the air traffic controller's strike of 1981, even more attention has been focused on the safety of air travel. This paper provides a brief examination of air travel from the perspective of the effectiveness of related Federal government programs.
