Abstract:

There are three sections to the presentation. First, a discussion of the changing environment of highway transportation - what are the factors and variables that are changing in the world of transportation. Second, the author discusses the impacts that these changes are having upon the design profession. The final section will suggest some changes to both the safety research and roadway design process which could lead to improvements in the safe operation of our highway network.
