Sediment Survey of Lake Powell

Part of: Soil Properties Evaluation from Centrifugal Models and Field Performance

Abstract:

The 1986 Lake Powell Sediment Survey documented the present storage-elevation relationship and loss of storage from sediment accumulation since the reservoir began filling. From the calculated siltation rate, questions can be answered about the reservoir filling with sediment in a short time. Knowing the capacity of the reservoir and where siltation is occurring will aid in the planning for recreation, power production, and water supplies.
