Abstract:

Based on historical records of up to 57 years, a computer model was developed to establish the precipitation - runoff relationship for four reservoir systems in the Northeast portion of New Jersey. This model was originally designed for use in reservoir management. The ratios of cumulative precipitations of a range of antecedent months including the current month and the cumulative precipitations of the same range of months but ending one month prior to the current month were used to establish the relationship by regression analysis with the corresponding ratios of runoffs. This relationship of ratios was then used in conjunction with the succeeding month's precipitation to estimate monthly runoffs.
