Abstract:

A laboratory model of the Cross Flow Turbine was investigated in the Hydraulics laboratory of Colorado State University. Because of the successful use of this turbine in the developing countries, emphasis was placed on simplicity of design and construction of the model. The material used was acrylic. Since the specific speed of the Cross Flow Turbine is an important selection parameter, several multiple regression analyses were conducted between the specific speed of the runner and the other non-dimensionalized variables. The equation resulting from such regression analyses can be effectively utilized for the design or selection of the turbine. This paper summarizes the model, the testing procedure, the results and analyses, and recommendations for future investigations.
