Abstract:

Within the last decade the use of modern data acquisition instrumentation and techniques have moved the subject of the machinery problem solving into a more scientific arena. This paper demonstrates the effective application of small recording systems and analyzers to diagnose various field machinery problems. The common factor in the resolution of the various machinery problems reported in the paper has been the use of portable single or small multi channel data acquisition systems. The problems discussed include specific examples of the following: excessive guide bearing clearance; stay vane cracking; flow induced structural vibration and noise; and self excited vibration due to runner seals.
