Abstract:

Obtaining extra energy or output from existing plants is the current topic when the question of refurbishing older turbine installation arises or when plant operating conditions can be optimized. To reach an optimum solution, two elements have to be analyzed: optimization of the plant operating conditions which can only be determined by the plant owner, and latest developments in the field of hydraulic profiles which are only known by turbine manufacturers. The evolution of hydraulic turbines and more particularly of their performance is the result of intensive research carried out in the course of the last two decades. This results, in particular, in higher peak efficiency, better behaviour towards cavitation phenomena, optimized turbine design, etc.
