Abstract:

This paper describes a diagnostic method for the early detection of shaft cracks on rotating machines. The method is based on interpretation of the lateral synchronous (1x) and twice per revolution 2x) vibration components of the shaft. The instrumentation and data acquisition/processing system for shaft crack diagnostics is outlined. Shaft crack case histories are also presented.
