Abstract:

The authors have attempted to explain a strategy for structural systems reliability calculations. In essence, it involves the use of different methods at appropriate times in the search for dominant failure regions. The steps outlined are not rigid. The user will have at his disposal all the tools to generate information. However, the sequence in which the search will proceed depends largely on the available information, the type of structure and the decision making process. Clearly the strategy lends itself to a great degree of flexibility and a reliance on the judgment of the user.
