Abstract:

In the present LRFD Specifications type PR (Partially Restrained) connections are described as those where the connections of beams and girders possess an insufficient rigidity to hold the original angles between intersecting members virtually unchanged. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate, using an actual building designed by the writers' firm, how PR connections can be used in frames and how it is practical to directly incorporate second order effects into the design of frames with PR connections.
