Chemical Admixtures for Concrete, What is in Them for the Structural Engineer?

by Ephraim Senbetta, Master Builders Inc, Cleveland, OH, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Materials and Member Behavior

Abstract:

The paper summarizes the effect of admixtures on the economy in construction of concrete structures, on their strength, and on their durability under a variety of service conditions. As much as structural engineers and specifiers rely on the recommended practices and standard specifications from organizations such as the American Concrete Institute and ASTM, there is a need for greater awareness of how new developments in admixture technology are obsoleting the recommended practices. New developments in admixture technology are also highlighted.
