Circular Tubes and Shells 4th Edition of SSRC Guide

by Donald R. Sherman, Univ of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Materials and Member Behavior

Abstract:

The 3rd edition of the Guide was the first to have a chapter devoted to Cylindrical Tubes and Shells. Chapter 14 in the 4th edition is a major revision of Chapter 10 in the previous edition. In the revision, this chapter has been updated as well as rearranged for clarity and to provide more definitive guidelines. Recommendations for the design of tubular columns have been eliminated and included with other column sections in Chapter 3. Therefore, Chapter 14 is concerned with local buckling of circular cylinders. No changes have been made in recommendations for aluminum cylinders, but recent research on steel cylinders has produced several changes in the recommendations of the Chapter.
