Abstract:

Modeling of flexible connection behavior as elastic-perfectly plastic is proposed for analysis of building frames, and results based on this idealization are compared with fully non-linear analyses for frame substructures under gravity and lateral loading. It is concluded that the first-order effects of connection flexibility can be captured within engineering accuracy by linearly-elastic analysis under working loads, and by perfectly-plastic analysis at ultimate.
