Abstract:

The Water Management District (the District) sets regulations to guide water users in conservation of water use in four phases of drought severity. The District's Governing Board is responsible for water shortage management. Each month during a drought, a detailed report of hydro-meteorological parameters is prepared for evaluation by the Governing Board to decide whether or not a water shortage is in effect. An important parameter in this evaluation is the determination of the degree of drought at the time of report. In this paper, the determination of drought was attempted using data from rainfall, ground water levels, and lake stages to produce a map of drought recurrence intervals.
