Abstract:

ESOLIN is a simulation model designed to study and optimize the development and operation of large hydro resource schemes. It was developed as a tool for the development of large hydro resource complexes in Northern Canada. Experience shows that simulation models like ESOLIN are preferred over Systems Analysis by most of the designers and operators of hydro schemes, because of their flexibility and versatility. The operation of the ESOLIN model features a modified space rule called 'Storage Factor' which enables one to determine, for each time step, the priorities between each reservoir of an integrated multireservoir system. The structure of the model is such that it may be easily adaptated to the special features of any project.
