Abstract:

A linked stream-aquifer system (LISAS) model is described. This model includes a deterministic sequential flow simulation component which generates hydrographs of surface runoff and deep percolation for each sub-watershed in the basin. The hydrograph of deep percolation forms a part of the input to the aquifer-simulation model. The aquifer-simulation model generates hydrographs of ground water flows into or out of the stream at various locations along its course. The surface and ground water flow hydrographs are combined with appropriate lags to develop virgin flow hydrographs at various locations and routed through the stream course using the kinimatic wave method. The application of the proposed model is illustrated by a simplified example.
