Wind Buffeting of Long Span Bridges with Reference to Erection Phase Behaviour

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Bridges and Transmission Line Structures

Abstract:

The balanced cantilever technique for cable-stayed bridge erection can lead to an unacceptable buffeting response at high wind speeds unless the erection scheme is carefully studied. The incorporation of temporary ties to stiffen the structure is recommended. A careful examination of the wind statistics should also be undertaken.
