Abstract:

Wind tunnel measurements of the response of a twin deck suspension bridge to dynamic wind loads are presented. The investigation was concerned with the determination of the deck response to vortex shedding and with the determination of the critical speed for the onset of a torsional instability. Wind tunnel tests were also performed with only a single deck of the bridge. The tests were performed in smooth flow, and in turbulent flow to incorporate the effects of nearby bridge structures. A taut-strip model was used for the investigation.
