by Blair Birdsall, Steinman Boynton Gronquist &, Birdsall, New York, NY, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Bridges and Transmission Line Structures

Abstract:

Much of the R & D work done in the development of details for the modernized form of stayed girder bridges has been contributed by those practicing in the field of prestressed concrete, and many bridges have been built using details adapted from that practice. The paper contains a discussion of the manufacture and corrosion protection of the individual wires as well as the complete members. It also contains suggestions regarding the end connections of the members and the practices used in construction. The writer's purpose is to present a viable alternative taken from the long standing service-tested details and to point the way toward additional development from these details to improve them with respect to use on stayed girder bridges.
