Abstract:

Losses from a water distribution system are inadequately defined by reference to only the gross conveyance efficiency (Ec) of the system. The various unavoidable and avoidable losses that influence Ec have to be quantified before decisions pertaining to remedial action can be taken. In the paper the methods used to quantify the various losses are discussed. A case study is presented that illustrates the usefulness of the proposed method for increasing Ec.
