Abstract:

A one-dimensional numerical model developed by Borah, Alonso and Prasad is discussed, improved and tested. The model named STREAM routes graded sediments and simulates aggradation, degradation and armoring in alluvial streams. The model formulation is modified to incorporate the phase lag between water and sediment particles. The model is applied to the Little and Mayer's experimental data under both armoring and nonarmoring conditions. Cumulative sediment discharges and size compositions of bed materials and eroded materials from measurements and computations are compared. Model sensitivity with respect to the computation time interval and the erodibility parameter are analyzed.
