Abstract:

This paper reports laboratory experiments on various materials used to protect earth weirs. Dumped rock, gabion mattresses, and shaped blocks on a gravel layer were subjected to high velocity discharges. The downstream slope varied from 1:5 to 1:30. Shaped blocks proved to be the most durable, but tipped rock may be more economical.
