Abstract:

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation regarding the variation of r. m. s. value of pressure fluctuations on the floor of free and forced hydraulic jumps formed downstream of a sluice gate in a horizontal rectangular channel. The data were collected for the range of inflow Froude number from 6. 20 to 11. 47 for the free jump and from 6. 80 to 10. 0 for the forced jump. Two dimensional sills of two different heights, i. e. 25. 0 mm and 50. 0 mm, were used to form the forced jump. In the case of the free jump the results have been compared with those available elsewhere, while the results of forced jump studies indicate that the floor pressure fluctuations are modified considerably by the presence of the sill.
