Abstract:

The development of design parameters for a storm runoff detention facility located on lowlands adjacent to an estuary and discharging into the tidal zone are discussed. The parameters include a correlation between rainfall volumes and tidal storm surges based on recorded rainfall and tide data, a design tide curve and the probabilities or excedence of concurrent rainfall, tide and tidal surge events. The effects of these parameters on the design of a facility are then discussed.
