Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '87

Abstract:

The vulnerability of the Pacific coastal areas to tsunamis is examined. The effects of previous tsunamis generated off the west coast of the United States (local tsunamis) and of remote source tsunamis generated in such areas as the Alaska Gulf, the Aleutians, and the coast of South America on the Pacific coast are described. The impact of probable future tsunamigenic (tsunami generating) earthquakes on the Pacific coast is described.
