Abstract:

This paper summarizes the efforts to reconcile the needs, problems, measures and programs in carrying out effectively the management of the coastal zone in Puerto Galera. To attain the objectives of the project, the Man and the Biosphere Inter-agency Committee on Ecological Studies through the technical men of its member agencies identified, observed, investigated and monitored various parameters contributing to the ecological balance and studied the rational use of the resources along the coastal zone. Problems identified include among others high degree of erosion due to gold panning activities in the Tabinay area & marble mining in San Isidro and Dulangan and coral reef destruction due to unregulated beach mining and tourism related activities.
