Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '87

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to identify the shore processes and beach characteristics which affect planning and management of eroding bay shorelines by examination of problems at selected locations in the New York metropolitan area. The procedure is to: 1) describe the nature of the erosion problem in each area; 2) identify past management solutions; 3) specify the roles that shoreline location and orientation play in the erosion process; 4) identify principal differences between bay beach processes and ocean beach processes; 5) identify some preliminary management implications of this information.
