Abstract:

Boyle Engineering Corporation has developed a comprehensive database technique using its Intergraph Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) system to assist in the computer modeling of the City of Naples water distribution system. The use of CADD in the development of their data base significantly improved the accuracy and efficiency of Boyle's work plus provided for greater flexibility in implementation. The paper discusses the procedure Boyle used in developing the data base. It compares and evaluates this computer-based approach relative to more traditional, manual systems, outlining the advantages and disadvantages of both methods.
