Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Recent Developments in Structural Optimization

Abstract:

This paper discusses the application of the method of truncated Fourier series to problems of structural optimization. It begins with a discussion of the range of the method which has by this time been applied to problems of beam vibration and both beam and plate buckling. It is then shown how the method applies equally well to the problem of the optimal design for transient vibrations of a shear beam.
