Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Effects of Deterioration on Safety and Reliability of Structures

Abstract:

This paper is a summary of the history and development and use of earthmoving scrapers. It will also take a look at the future of this type of machine. We'll build the discussion around the present 'state of the art' designs of scrapers, but of necessity, we'll talk a little of moving earth in general, to show how the modern scraper fits into the work of earthmoving. We'll talk quite a bit about how they work and why they are successful and useful. This will lead to some considerations of economics and the principles of application of scrapers, and how the history of development coincides with the development of earthmoving work to be done.
