Abstract:

A physically-based model was developed to simulate the intrusion of fine sediments into stream gravel substrates and its effects on intragravel flow. The model is capable of simulating sediment intrusion of different particle sizes, and incorporates the influence of stream hydraulics, substrate matrix composition, intragravel velocities, and sediment settling. The individual model components and their mutual interaction are discussed. Results of a test run demonstrate that the proposed model exhibits the expected response.
